Compare equipment providers using one written purchase specification and the same financing request. A quoted monthly payment tells you little until you know the deposit, number of payments, fees, ownership terms and final purchase obligation. Your shortlist should contain providers that finance your equipment and business stage, with enough detail to compare their actual offers.

Start with the whole purchase

Give each provider the same vendor quote, equipment description, age and condition, delivery date and requested financing amount. Separate the machine price from installation, freight, taxes, training, software and site improvements. Ask which expenses the provider will finance and which you must pay yourself.

For example, Ascentium’s healthcare program includes new or used equipment and can bundle associated costs such as shipping, taxes and training. Dexter Financial’s FAQ says it finances equipment purchases, but excludes construction costs and store purchases. Those differences matter when a laundromat or clinic needs more than machinery.

Check eligibility before comparing limits

A large advertised maximum does not tell you what your business can borrow. Ask about business age, revenue, credit, geography, equipment restrictions, personal guarantees and documentation for your specific request.

Ameris Bank Equipment Finance, the current site reached from Balboa Capital, distinguishes standard equipment criteria from select newer-business programs capped at $50,000. Its application-only limits also differ between hard and soft collateral. Ask which category applies to your purchase.

U.S. Bank limits its advertised application-only process up to $250,000 to existing customers. Compare the process you actually qualify for, including any extra records required above the simplified limit.

Put each offer into the same worksheet

Request these items in writing before choosing:

Item What to record
Cash required now Deposit, advance payments and fees
Amount financed Equipment and included project expenses
Scheduled payments Amount, frequency, number and first due date
Final obligation Balloon, purchase option or return conditions
Ownership and security Who holds title, liens and guarantees
Early exit Written payoff examples and termination conditions

Calculate the total cash paid under each offer, including upfront amounts and any required final payment. Keep a separate line for excluded project costs so a smaller financed amount does not appear artificially cheaper. Compare offers over the period you expect to use the asset.

Read the contract structure

Ask whether you are receiving a loan, lease or equipment finance agreement. Request a plain explanation of who owns the asset during the term and what happens when payments finish. A purchase option, automatic renewal or return requirement can change the decision even when payments look similar.

Early repayment deserves its own question. Dexter distinguishes additional principal payments on loans from lease contracts, where those partial payments are unavailable. Ask every provider for an example payoff at the same date and whether paying early reduces the remaining financing cost.

Choose a workable offer

Compare approval conditions, vendor-payment timing and delivery requirements alongside cost. A fast credit decision does not establish when the vendor receives funds. Confirm what still has to happen after approval, particularly if installation or acceptance is required.
