How factors lend and what they look for
Factors buy your unpaid invoices, advance most of their value within a day or two and collect from your customer when the invoice comes due. Because they are underwriting your customer's ability to pay, factoring opens to young and fast growing businesses a bank would turn down. The cost comes as a discount on each invoice, so compare the advance rate, the fee per period and any minimum volume before you choose.

What does a factor look for?
Creditworthy customers who pay on time, invoices with proof of delivery, no prior liens on receivables and a spread of customers.
How fast does a factor fund?
Two to five days to open the account, then about a day per invoice. Customer verification and an existing lien are what slow it.
How does a lender get on the register?
Entries start from public records. Standing rises as the lender claims its entry, adds its loan officers and verifies its details.
How many factors are on the register?
The register lists 100 factors and 3 loan officers who work at them. Any lender can claim its entry and correct its details.
